Six Month Paid Technical Internship

We are looking for a person to work closely with our technical manager to accelerate the conversion of prototype devices to standard production products. This will involve an unusually wide exposure to hands-on technical challenges, in these areas and others:

* Soldering (boards, cables in low volume)
* Programming (small testing programs, mostly python)
* Mechanical assembly
* Some mechanical design, mostly aimed at production
* Documentation: writing, editing wiki pages
* Sourcing of parts, researching materials, components, adhesives, etc

Some of this work will be aimed at getting production devices to customers, and some will involve engineering of new devices under supervision.

We have a fast design-to-customer process and we want to make it even faster, while emphasizing the importance of well documented products that can be reproduced reliably in our machine shop and fiber shop.

This is a learn-on-the-job position: We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented person with BSc in a technical subject (math, chemistry, physics, engineering) and a personal or professional history of making things and solving problems. You do not need direct experience in the above areas if you have demonstrated interest somehow in your past, so tell us about that in your cover letter. But for this position we are limiting the search to people who have studied technical subjects in a four year program or something very close to that.

This as a six month internship. The position ends after six months and you will not be eligible for unemployment compensation from us at that time. If other positions are available at that time you may be considered for them.

Requirements

* BA/BSc or equivalent in a technical subject
* Interest in electronic and mechanical problem solving
* Demonstrated interest in technical hands-on work and problem solving
* Strong writing and communication skills
* Linux experience

Where, when, etc.

Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9-5.
Benefits: Health and dental insurance, paid leave and holidays after an introductory period.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Location: West Philadelphia
